When I was in grad school, I ran into a girl who I had known a little during my freshman year at BYU. We started dating a few weeks afterward. She was tall, beautiful, a returned missionary with a strong testimony, smart, educated and, perhaps best of all, she loved sports. She played and also liked to watch.
On paper, she was my ideal woman. One problem. Her conversation was full of Utah-isms. She frequently said things like "oh my heck" and "heck-a-fun". Many featured the word "heck" but there were others. It drove me crazy, and ultimately drove me away
Good woman, but she was a Utah-talker. I couldn't get past it.
Lucky for me, I later met a woman with all of these same characteristics, but without being a Utah-talker. She's now my wife.
