were young, they wouldn't remember the great vacations anyway. As they got old enough to remember the good vacations, my income had gone up enough that we were able to do some good ones in their teenage years.
One other thing that led us in that direction, we wanted to live around good, stable families that were going to stick around long time so our kids could have friend in scouts, mutual, etc.
If I could only pick one and kids weren't involved, I'd go with the vacations. When kids are involved, I'd go with the nice house.
