“Now, you want to talk tough schedules — take a look at BYU’s. My word. They could be a perfectly decent team and still start 0-4 against Utah, at Tennessee, USC and Washington. The only good news is the three Pac-12 teams come to Provo. Still, Andy and I see them missing a bowl. BYU will never suck up its pride and go back to the Mountain West, but I fail to see how this is a more enjoyable existence. Get some good TV exposure, but be out of the national picture completely by October?”

I don't think he was declining. There was a natural adjustment to our W-L record due to increased P5 scheduling
