Here’s another attempt at a letter grade scale for BYU this regular season.
Baseline for simple win-loss results:
A
9-3 or better
B
8-4
C
7-5
D
6-6
F
5-7 or worse
Results that move BYU up a partial step on the grading scale (e.g. B to B+):
Win vs Utah
Win vs ranked team
Wins vs both BSU + USU
4+ wins at LaVell Edwards Stadium
Results that move BYU down a partial step on the grading scale (e.g. B to B-):
Loss to Utah
Losses to both BSU + USU
3+ losses to G5 teams
3+ losses at LaVell Edwards Stadium

I’m sure there are lots of other factors I could have used to weight the grading scale but I think this is fair and aligns more or less with several of the stated program goals (win rivalry games, win at home, etc).
It’s a difficult, front-loaded schedule this year, but I see no reason BYU can’t manage a passing grade.
