This is going to be somewhat personal, but I'll post it in the hopes that it could help somebody else.
I've been doing keto the last 2 months. I'm down 50+ lbs. I just had a checkup and my previously high cholesterol numbers are way down. Blood pressure was 125/55 (down from 150/80). Resting heart rate was 51 bpm.
In July I went on a backpacking trip in the High Uintas. I'm feeling better than I have in a long, long time.

I've struggled with depression for years, which, for me, directly led to significant weight gain. I finally did something about it, which helped me find the energy to accomplish 3x as much each day, including taking control of my physical health.

If you've been on the fence about making healthy changes, just do it. If you're struggling with depression, get control of it, so you can do everything else you want to. It's hard. I dragged my feet for years. To me, it seemed like an insurmountable barrier to schedule an appointment and then "complain" to the doc about how I was constantly at my limit emotionally, how I didn't have energy to do more than the bare minimum to keep my family moving forward, how I felt a pit of dread in my stomach every single day.

There wasn't a magical quick fix, but once I started, momentum began to slowly build. I tried different things. Some things helped a little, some things helped a lot, some not at all. I started noticing changes here and there. I started playing with my kids more. I started feeling happy sometimes. That helped me do even more. My life has become meaningful again, so now I'm finally willing to do what it takes to make it longer and better.

I don't plan to stop.

For any who care, I weighed in at 278 this morning, down from 385 on June 15 when I started this transformation. (jaromp, Nov 9, 2019 at 10:18am)
