Son came home sad on his 2nd day of 7th grade. His science teacher had kids line up tallest to shortest to illustrate
how taller people are stronger and better at tug-of-war. My son was the shortest one in the class and was subsequently made fun of. As he began telling me, I knew where it was going because to me it was obvious--if you classify 7th graders based on physical appearance and characteristics, you are guaranteeing that some of them will be made fun of (at least if it's height and/or weight; eye color or hair color I think would be less likely to lead to teasing). That's just my thinking. As a teacher, to me it would be obvious. Am I off base here? Am I wrong to think this probably isn't a good exercise, or is it harmless fun and people just overreact?
