Fair. There are fringes on both sides. I just think we need to remember that they are indeed small fringes and not paint with that broad brush- as you said. *Thumbs up*
The large majority of BYU fans are good people living their lives the best they can, just like Ute fans, and everybody else. I like the light rivalry smack refering to the games, but when it gets personal and nasty, I'm not down with it. That goes for smack on players as well and it applies to both sides. I actually feel pretty bad for the Wilson family as they were Utah fans at heart but they're experiencing some of the worst of our own fan-base now I'm sure. That's got to be hurtful, confusing, and pull at their souls. I hope they are getting a lot of support from their long-time friends in the Utah fan base.
I was mutting Utes on twitter that were bringing BYU smack outside of 2 weeks before the game. Too soon. And it was 99% streak / moral victory stuff, not personal or stereotypical insults. The two year break was pretty good for the fan-war to simmer down a bit but I think having the rivalry as the first game of the season with all the anticipation and this year's Utah hype has brought it to crazy uglyness.
I'll do my part to keep it civil. Just trying to point out where I personally think it crosses the line (both sides) and if a few people can take that to heart and improve the discourse then it's worth it to me.
If you want to talk The Game, I'm pretty confident that Utah will win this one, but still quite nervous. There is this nagging feeling where it's all set up for the biggest rivalry upset of the decade. With the biggest preseason Utah hype ever, it's just set up too perfectly for an upset and resulting headlines and historic lore. May the best team win!
