Its laughable that the narrative coming out of the west concourse is that Utah has simply passed up BYU and its no longer a competitive rivalry. I literally heard BIll Riley, who was backed up in his delusion that Utah is just continuing on its upward trajectory and BYU can no longer compete. ITs as iff this will always be the case. How stupid and arrogant. While its true that Utah is good right now, they still have not won anything in the Pac 12.

Almost all of the rivalry games in this streak have been close. Heck, even 2017, the final score was only 19-13.

But this notion that this will always be the case, is silly. Utah has a very good coach in KWhitt, but there is no guarantee that this will always be the case. There is no guarantee that when he leaves that the next guy will even be able to maintain the status quo much less continue this "upward trajectory."

There is no reason to believe that this game in a week will be anythiny but a dogfight. And BYU certainly has enough talent to win te game. And if you add in this growing arrogance that seems to be coming from both the Yewt press, and the fan base, there is no way that such arrogance won't seep its way into the hearts and minds of the players. And if there is anything that we've all learned about sports the worst thing that can happen to a team is for them to believe their own press clippings.

And the truth is is that if BYU does win the game a week from tonight, it could actually have a long lasting impact on the psyche of the Yewts. Nothing worse for a team to be told that they are the favorite to win the Pac 12, and are a dark horse team to make the playoff and then to get beat by their rival who is supposed to be simply inferior to them in every way.
