One could also argue that the AP poll has some influence with the committee. The committee's rankings are only important for bowl selection.

Tennessee can still be a quality win if Florida loses. But unless Florida loses, BYU isn't passing them in any poll. This is why I order the rooting guide the way I do:

1. BYU's results matter most.
2. Utah sucks.
3. BYU's opponents need to be good, but need to be defeated by BYU
4. Teams ranked ahead of BYU must be destroyed.
5. It wouldn't hurt if the teams that BYU's opponents play are actually good, but not as critical as 1-4.
6. Upsets are fun.
7. Nothing else matters.

Not saying you are wrong. I think your point of view is a valid one. If anything, Tennessee is going to get PLENTY of chances to play quality opponents (see Georgia and Alabama). It might be in theirs and our best interest to have Florida suck.
