Lost 80's Live tour report you've all been waiting for... TL;DR at end.
Shocking how old these people are. Interesting that on the first page of Drudge there's a story about how so many rock legends will be dying in the next decade, this is exactly what I was thinking at this concert.

TransX (dangerous name in the SF bay area): Disturbing 70ish guy in tight white pants and an all gray combover playing one of those piano guitars to a recorded dance track. Back to the rest home rec room for him.

When in Rome: Played one song nobody cared about, then ended with The Promise. Sounded pretty good, one guy still could hit the notes, the other guy could not.

Boys Don't Cry: This guy started with a song he seemed to really like, but nobody knew nor cared about. Afterwards, he said in to the mic "I'm at that age now where I've got to take a piss all the time, I'll be right back". The crowd mostly chuckled at his joke, then he actually left the stage to take a piss.... As we all sat there knowing what he was doing and hoping they turned off his mic. He ran back on stage a minute or so later and finished with "I Wanna Be a Cowboy". Oy.

Escape Club: Started with "I'll Be There", which is well known for memorial montages on YouTube and finished with "Wild Wild West". These guys sounded pretty good, too bad the song is mostly annoying.

The Vapors: First song unrecognizable, then finished with a pretty good rendition of "Turning Japanese", but only after the lead singer explained that everything you've heard about the origin of that song isn't true. This just after I explained to my wife the origin of that song.

Animotion: First song no bueno, then finished with Obsession. The lady here is now mid 60's and heavy. She sounds OK, but I felt awkward watching her on stage. She was wearing fishnet stockings, a black dress that just covered her knees and flat black sensible sandals. After her set, she would troll around the audience looking for people to ask to take selfies with her. It really felt desperate.

Real Life: "Catch Me I'm Falling" and then finished with "Send Me An Angel". These guys sounded really good. Still presentable, sort of knew their place and did well.

Musical Youth: Some reggae song and then finished with "Pass The Dutchie". IMO, the worst set of the night. Sounded fine I guess, but few songs annoy me more than that one. Since these guys were teens back in the 80s, they were by far the youngest performers in their late 40s/early50s.

The Motels: Martha Davis is the real deal. She was terrific and their 3 song set were all hits. "Suddenly Last Summer", she said was just picked up by American Horror Story for their next season. "Take the L", and finished with "Only The Lonely".

Wang Chung: I was probably looking most forward to hearing these guys, my least favorite of theirs is "Everybody Have Fun Tonight", which I knew they would do but I was hoping to hear some others. Wang Chung was a headliner I suppose, so I was disappointed when only half of the original duo took the stage, and not the lead singer. Pretty much a cover band at this point. Started with "To Live And Die In LA", "Dance Hall Days", then played "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" by the Clash (cementing their cover band status) and finishing with "Everybody Have Fun Tonight"

Missing Persons: Dale Bozzio is 65 yrs. old. She walked on stage, stood in front of the microphone and sang "What Are Words For", then introduced the members of the band. She then sang "Walking In LA", then introduced the members of the band. Someone came onto the stage and helped her walk off. I think she's slipping, but could somehow still sound pretty good. This was more sad than entertaining.

Flock Of Seagulls: This guy is now bald and fat, not the hairdo you remember. He started with a song nobody cared about, we decided it wasn't worth the traffic hassles to wait to hear "I Ran", so we made our way to the parking lot while listening to him play a couple of unrecognizable songs.

All in all, 6 out of 10. For the most part they all sounded pretty good, so kudos to the mixer. Some of the concert videos on YouTube are horrendous. The venue on the side of a hill in Saratoga, CA is superb, and a nice night out with my bride is always enjoyable. Along with some nostalgia came the realization that we're getting old, and this had a little streak of desperation threaded throughout the night. Fans my age can't dance. In years' past, we've enjoyed seeing these groups of one hit wonders, but I think we're done.

I was going to take my wife to the Phil Collins concert at the brand new Chase Center in SF (new home of the Warriors), but after watching a few concert videos of his on YouTube, we decided to pass. Phil isn't healthy and he literally sits in a chair center stage for the whole concert. Pass.

TL;DR - see your favorite artists in concert sooner rather than later.
