Some stats for this year
Our rankings out of FBS members per teamrankings.com:

Giveaways #67th (7 teams haven't played yet so we are really 60th)
Takeaways #101 (according to rankings, this has been a bigger problem than the giveaways)
Points per Play #65
Points allowed per Play #74 (7 teams haven't played yet so we are really 67th)
Yards per play #56
Yards allowed per play #78 (7 teams haven't played yet so we are really 71st)
Plays per game #106 (no one below us has played 2 games)
Opponent Average Time of Possession #116
3rd Down Conversion Percentage #37
Punts per play #82 (7 teams haven't played yet so we are really 75th)
Opponent punts per play #109 (we force the opponent to punt approximately once every 25 plays)

What do these stats tell you? Here are a few that they tell me.

We are worse (ranked) in points allowed per play than we are in points scored per play. So the bend but don't break defense is not actually limiting points, just longer possessions.
We punt too often, but we almost never force the opponent to punt. That number is horrific.
We are better at moving the ball per play than we are at stopping the opponent from moving it.
We are actually a very good 3rd down team at keeping the drive alive.
Our lack of turnovers is alarming. Yes the turnovers against Utah hurt but we are better at protecting the ball than we are at turning the other team over.

The defense has allowed lower scoring games the first two weeks not because of good defense, but because of a lack of plays.
