so if the majority are .500 or better when they played Utah, this isn't an easy schedule by any stretch.

In a conference where there is a lot of parity, 9-games and a lot of tough road venues, you're going to see a 4-5, 5-4 type teams. Since you're focusing on Utah wins, you add another loss to the column. You're going to end up with fewer teams with "winning" seasons...but no gimmes.
