One day I was wearing BYU gear and happened to talk to him. He lit up and started saying how LaVell had started it all- that his base concepts and passing attacks all came from his time reviewing BYU in the 70s and 80s and going to coaching clinics with them. He was very complementary towards BYU. He of course changed and enhanced things but he was enlightened by what he saw at BYU.
