In my opinion the play that encapsulates who Zach is as a player was the critical late game play where he escapes 2-3 defenders deep in the back field all while keeping his eyes down field for the open man and then hitting who I believe was Romney... that play was big time and he made it look like he was born to do it and it was no big deal.

Objectively speaking I’ve seen some accuracy issues that I wasn’t expecting this season but it’s everything else that he does that far outweighs the occasional bad thrown ball.

I believe he’s exactly who BYU has needed. He’s the first gunslinger and field general since Max Hall. He’s the kind of player that is showing us that even though BYU may be down late in the game, give this kid the ball and there’s a real chance he leads the team down field for a highlight filled drive. We have not seen this since Max Hall.

Christian Stewart was good/great as a passer but lacked other intangibles. Riley Nelson was a fierce competitor who had moments of greatness but those were overshadowed by injuries and mistakes (Cody Hoffman pass v ND). Taysom is possibly the best athlete to ever play for BYU but struggled to consistently string together displays of pure QB play. His legs and propensity to wanting to run the ball had the ability to help fans forget his inaccuracy, lack of touch etc...

Although the style of play is different, Zach is reminiscent of Brett Farve. Farve had incredible confidence, and the type of short term memory an athlete who’s willing to take risks needs to have.

Zach is making BYU fun again. He’s inspiring kids, capturing imaginations and entertaining fans.

It’s worth mentioning that this group of receivers have been scrappy, sure handed and a great compliment to the player Zach is.

Here’s hoping quality receiver recruits see Zach and want to come to BYU to play with him.
