4 big differences
#1. Lopini Katoa was our lead back in that game with Squally dinged up and deflated by a fumble. This year Katoa is 3rd string. Ty'Son Williams is a game changer. He makes BYU's run game a threat and that forces an extra guy into the box.

#2. Jake Browning went 23-25. He was light's out. It's tough to do that in skeleton drills with no defense. But he was a senior QB with tons of experience and he carved up BYU's soft zone. Eason may be a bit more of an NFL prototype, but he is still in a learning curve.

#3. BYU played a dinged up Chris Wilcox and Michael Shelton at the 2 corner spots. They were extremely intimidated by UW's speed and gave up huge cushions. Now BYU has Shutdown Dayan at one corner and the Mandell/Gallow combo on the other side. This set of corners seems to be much better.

#4. Zach Wilson for Tanner Mangum. Mangum was actually quite accurate in the UW game. He went 18-21 so he had an insane completion percentage, but only 6 of his completions went to WRs. The rest of his completions were to TEs on short balls and to the backs. UW was able to play a keep-everything-in-front defense and then come forward and tee off on whomever ended up with the ball. Defending Zach Wilson is different. He throws deep reasonably often. His legs require a spy, which softens up the middle. The only thing BYU had to soften up the defense last year was the fly sweep with Hifo and he simply wasn't fast enough to be a threat. He's still there, but now BYU has multiple threats, starting with ZW.
