whether it's altruistic, or a little self-serving, ideas like this
perpetuate exactly what we're trying to say the football team is capable of doing--bringing attention to BYU and its (the Church's) message. Some people want that to be heartfelt and "churchy," which is fine by me. Some people want it to just be about good football, which is also fine by me. It's a win/win because both philosophies are served. I think doing something like this is a cool idea simply because it's nice, but also because I want the BoT to see the extent of the value of the football team and how it, too, carries the church's banner. Not that the church should sponsor something like this, but if these kinds of little grassroots efforts take hold and demonstrate this kind of unexpected value that football brings then maybe, just maybe, it could loosen the purse strings to improve the on-field product (coaching is probably the biggest one). And then the light that currently shines on the team will just shine brighter.
