Rooting Guide Week 4
The goals for BYU are:

1. To win as many games as possible
2. To be bowl eligible and play the best bowl opponent possible
3. To achieve the highest ranking possible
4. To win a NY6 bowl game

Ideal records:
BYU 12-1. NY6 Bowl
Tennessee 11-2 SEC Champs
South Florida 11-2 AAC Champs
Toledo 12-1. MAC champs
Idaho St. 10-2 Big Sky champs
UMass 8-4
Washington 10-3.Pac-12 North Champs
USC 11-2. Pac-12 Champs.
SDSU 11-2. MWC champs.
Boise St 10-2
Utah St 10-3. Mountain West Mountain Champs
Liberty 8-4
Utah 3-9

If you want to see these goals accomplished here is your rooting guide:

A. Cheer for BYU. Duh.

BYU over #22 Washington

B. Cheer for the team playing Utah. Because they’re Utah.

USC over Utah

C. Cheer for BYU’s opponents. This helps SOS.

#20 Boise St over Air Force
Idaho St over Northern Iowa
Liberty over Hampton
Tennessee over #9 Florida
Toledo over Colorado St
UMass over Coastal Carolina
Utah St over San Diego St

D. Cheer for teams playing teams ranked ahead of BYU. Cheer for unranked teams vs. ranked teams. If both teams are ranked ahead of BYU cheer for the higher ranked team (Of course rules A-C trump rule D).

Charlotte over #1 Clemson
Southern Miss over #2 Alabama
#3 Georgia over #7 Notre Dame
Vanderbilt over #4 LSU
Miami-Ohio over #6 Ohio St
#8 Auburn over #17 Texas A&M
#11 Michigan over #13 Wisconsin
Oklahoma St over #12 Texas
Pitt over #15 UCF
Stanford over #16 Oregon
UCLA over #19 Washington St
Old Dominion over #21 Virginia
Ole Miss over #23 Cal
Colorado over #24 Arizona St
SMU over #25 TCU

E. Cheer for our Opponents’ opponents unless they are playing our opponents. This helps our SOS in virtually every SOS calculation. Cheer for the team that our opponents have defeated or will likely defeat. All things being equal cheer for the more connected team (unless it violates rules A-D). For example, Colorado St is one of the most connected teams to our opponents as they play 4 games against them (Toledo, San Diego St, Boise St, Utah St). The number by the team indicates how connected they are.
