Everyone on this board--in the pre season--would have LOVED a 2-2 record after the first four games. After the first game, most here were hoping for a six win SEASON.
What was different about the overtime W's we managed and what was different in the two losses?
COACHING
Whittingham and Peterson are better coaches and have stable programs and systems. Pruitt and Helton are literally coaching for their lives. Every game. That makes a huge difference.
TALENT GAP
They have layers of talent at every position. We are already going into marginal territory with our injuries. With Tenn & USC we had no injuries. DB's, LB's and Ty'son were healthy. Today we saw the gap. Kudos to Allgeier for being willing to switch from RB to LB this week and garner some tackles, but that speaks volumes...
TURNOVERS
We commit them, we lose. We guard the ball and do not give it to opponents, we win. Period.
RECEIVERS
Catch the darn ball. Seriously. That was tragically epic today.
SOME THINGS
Aside from the turnovers, two things were abundantly clear:
1. We gave up massive amounts of yardage on these road-grader plays that chewed up 9 yards per play. Ouch. Those beefy boys looked at our first half three linemen and said, "Thank you very much."
2. We have to recruit some JC pass rushers. Some edge guys who can pressure the QB, because that dude had about 10 minutes to throw each ball...
I still see us winning 8 games in the regular season. We survived the Holmoe scheduling gauntlet. Now, let's see if we can survive each other and our tendency to rip apart the program, the coaches or the players to align with our gaudy, self promotion and strange perspective.
Go Cooogs! Beat Toledo!!
