Whitney Bower reclassified and graduated from high school a year early. The 17 year old has become the starting Setter on the #9 ranked BYU Cougars and led them to a 12-2 record.
Bower replaced first-team All-American Lyndie Haddock-Eppich, who was really athletic and strong at the block. One pleasant surprise Bower has brought to the team is her serve. She leads this year’s team with 31 aces. As a reference Roni Jones-Perry led last year’s team with 42 aces. If Bower keeps her current pace, she’ll finish the season with 65+ aces. This number doesn’t capture how many times she gets the opposing team out of system with her tricky lefty serves.
It looks like the Cougars found their answer at Setter, which bodes well for this season and the three to come.
