Personally, I am conflicted about what BYU should do about head coaches. I don’t know what’s worse. Have a coaching carousel that leads to the program spiraling downward. Or keep a coach too long who is not the right guy and watch the program spiral downward. Lots at stake either way.
I really want Kalani to succeed. He is such a great guy and represents the university and church so well. He bleeds blue through and through. I have to think that he can grow into the position as head coach.
But how long can the university wait for him to grow into the position? Fans have left by droves already. Younger generations are latching on to the Utes more than BYU. We see the same problems year after year. Big wins that give you hope only to have your hope dashed by inexplicable losses to teams that we should beat.
I am willing to be patient. But if we end up 6-6 again, I definitely think changes need to be made. Beating USU and BSU are very important to his tenure at BYU. They are beatable. Hope it happens.
