Despite titles, I have wondered if Sitake really runs the defense, ala Bronco, Whittingham (when Sitake was DC), etc.? Is Tuiaki more of a DC in name only and functions as an asst coach? Or is he really accountable for all things D? Do you think Sitake is intimately involved with defensive game plans? Anyone have first-hand insights here?
The answer to that question leads to different ultimate fixes for the issues on the defense. Remember when the defense was bad under Jaime Hill. Bronco made changes midway and salvaged the season. Probably harder to do when the DC is your childhood friend. Not necessarily calling for Tuiaki's head, just wondering where the defensive strategy is ultimately coming from and how it gets fixed right now . . .
"Sitake used to be a kid who would ride his bike to then Cougar Stadium to watch the second half of BYU games because he couldn't afford to get into the games with Ilaisa Tuiaki and now he's calling the shots of the program."
