(1) Would this team, as currently comprised, both players and coaches, compete at a high, medium or low level in either the AAC or MWC?
(2) If this team were in either the AAC or MWC how would recruiting change? Which players that have been here during Indy would not have come if BYU was in a G5 conference (eg Troy Warner, Taysom Hill, etc). Finally, what recruits that didn’t come to BYU during the Indy period would have if BYU would have been in a G5 conference?
(3) If BYU were not Indy, how would the economics of BYU football change? Would revenues go up? Or down? If down, what would they have sacrificed? Would it have further degraded coaching options? Would it have further degraded recruiting budgets? What are the implications?
I don’t think there is one BYU fan that would rather be Indy just to be Indy instead of being in a conference. But it has to be a conference that makes sense. And it’s hard to see a pathway in a G5 conference where the answers to the above questions put BYU in a better position than where they are at right now. Not that the current position is good, but it is making the best of a pretty bad environment.
