I took all my mission slides down to my local family history center and scanned them all in just over an hour (I had several hundred).  The FHC had a very nice scanner that exceeded the quality of anything I could remotely afford.  The long and short, to do it right, it will cost you more than a trip to Utah if their isn’t a family history center near you in Montana.
