ideas about BYUs priorities and the BOT thoughts are just bizarre and plain wrong.
BYU is an academic institution owned by the Church. It’s top priority is a full (temporal and spiritual) education for members of the Church.
The Church is in the business of inviting others to come into Christ by making and keeping sacred covenants.
Fielding a football team is justifiably pretty far down the list of priorities.
I want the football team to be successful. I would love a new coaching staff. I think Tom has failed the big two sports, but has overachieved in other areas. I think Matt Richardson is a good religion professor, but a poor administrator.
However, I won’t go as far as many of you in saying that ordained apostles need to spend more time thinking about the football program. I think President Worthen and the BOT are doing their jobs well and are correctly prioritizing more important things.
