an observation
from me, is that a winning football program, brings more attn to the school, and consequently the church, than almost anything else. I fly over 100K miles a year and have for nearly 35 years. I always wear BYU gear when I fly, with the hopes that someone will ask me something about my faith, and I might share that which is most important to me. Never once had someone say, well you guys sure have a good mens choir, or even a national dance champion, or anything else. It almost always starts with, " who you guys got this week ", and most the time leads to cordial conversation. For me, even though I know it doesnt carry the work forth in any way that leads to salvation, it is the most visible thing we have, and when you see the millions that tune into our broadcasts, and the emails or texts I receive about those games from non members of our faith, you know it is creating exposure.
We ought to go all in on winning, and doing it right. Our academics are getting progressively better, and as I tell a local 4 star recruit every time I see him. " there are 35K mormon ( I know not appropriate to use that term ) girls your age in Utah County alone. WE have to coach better, recruit better, and I may be alone, but I believe we can!
