We live in a San Diego suburb where nearly every kid in the ward has a smart phone with full Internet access, and according to my kids, every single kid they know in middle school does as well. They're probably close to accurate from my observation.
Our oldest is 13 and we've pretty much shot it down thus far, but I thought I'd get a broader point of reference. I want him to be able to connect with his friends, but have the typical concerns (Colin Kartchner type stuff) about Internet access too young. I'd like something that has the ability to group text and make calls, but don't feel like a phone with Internet and social media is wise for an early teen. Interested in any solutions you've found. In our area Verizon is pretty much the only carrier that functions (AT&T is dead on our street).
(meant to post an option for "no phone" but hit send too soon)
