He is an interesting guy. I had no idea his lineage goes back to the blues with family and family friends like tbone Walker, Little Walter, and Les Paul. Makes sense given his melody guitar and memorable lyrics.
Sadly, I only heard the first half hour. His best story was about being invited by Pink Floyd to open for them at a music festival in London in 1975. He was writing at the time and didn't want to do it, so he said his price was $50k which they agreed to immediately (apparently they are big fans of Steve Miller). He wrote Rockin' Me Baby to close the show and put together a band for the day by borrowing a guitarist from Boz Scaggs and Doug Clifford, the drummer for CCR. There were 120k people at the show and he did not disappoint.
He went into incredible detail about how he wrote, assembled songs and revised albums that would take him months working alone. He said the one song which he wishes he could do over was Space Cowboy which he wrote to a beat similar to Lady Madonna and recorded all in about 15 minutes. He performs a different version live now.
