I think he realized he needed to move on with his life...much like my younger
son that spent 4 years of his life running every day competing in cross country and track events. When it came time to go to college, it was very hard for him to tell his coaches that he wasn't going to run at the college level. He wanted to start his degree and go on a mission and start figuring out what to do for a living.

Not sure my older son felt gaming was really a decent career choice regardless of how good he was.
