When I was a kid we'd only trick or treat to the neighbors on our block, and
then one of my parents would drive us around town to the houses of my dad's relatives (he had/has quite a few aunts, uncles, and cousins that lived in our small town that we were/are quite close to). We made out like bandits at the relatives' houses. Most of them would have special treats set aside for "cousins" that were either bigger candies or small gift bags full of treats like you might get as a party favor at a kid's birthday. It was awesome. These stops usually included short visits, hugs from my aunts, and them taking our picture. (There's going to be an oddly complete record in my dad's extended family of what everyone dressed up as for Halloween over the years.)

I don't live in that same small town anymore, but I've taken my kids back to trick or treat on that same route every year since they were old enough. And my kids get the same treatment: special treats, big hugs and from my aunts/cousins, and a handful still take a picture of them in their costumes every year.
