O Gaucho All-American
Took $$ thousands of dollars worth of books to DI on Saturday. Cleaning out my
in laws house as they just moved into a rest home. Both of them had books beyond belief. Church books, academic books, fiction, etc. We loaded up the trucks. When we got to DI they told us to pull up to one of the big bins on a pallet and dump the books in there. It was a ton of books. We filled up 1 and 1/2 of their big bins. We had taken what we wanted but still felt like we should do something good with the rest of them. My in-laws were ok with it because they felt someone would get some good use out of them.

As we were leaving, one of the worker tells us, "Well to be truthful, on Saturday we get so many books that we just shred them and take them to recycling. If you want your books to go into the store, bring them during the week and we sort through them."

It was like a punch to the gut. Something I will never be able to tell the in-laws. I can see from DI's standpoint they have to do something and not be overrun. I can only imagine how much crap they get here in Utah. However had I known, we definitely would have looked for a better place to take them where they might get some use.

Don't know why I am sharing this except that it has bugged me ever since. At least the house is getting cleared out and we didn't just take them to the dump.
