magical about sitting around a fire with your son, listening to nuts fall out of the trees and a few critters wandering through the woods. I realized how much he has grown up and how much more of that I need to do to stay connected with him as he gets older.
He's my early riser, so we were up an hour before daylight with nothing to do but build a fire as it was a cold morning and we couldn't see around camp. I like building fires as much today as I did as a kid! When it finally got light we explored down to the lake shore where we watched the mist blowing across the water, found various animal tracks at the waters edge, and skipped stones (I had a couple of 15s, just to brag a bit!) before hiking back to the car.
Funny thing is what seems to matter to a boy. We had thin mashed potatoes (drinkable) because I forgot to bring a spoon, and he said the food was one of his favorite things. Experiences don't have to be fancy to be impactful and memorable.
