play calling was definitely better. ZW definitely liked to run whenever he...
...could (much like Taysom). We saw the same thing with Taysom at QB, as soon as he left the pocket his view of the field narrowed considerably and he missed seeing wide-open WR's down field constantly. Or he'd hang onto the ball too long and take unnecessary sacks trying to make a big play instead of just taking the easy play. ZW was no different and multiple times a game you'd hear the color analyst mention that he missed so and so who was open.

The announcers in the BSU game were constantly praising Baylor for how quickly he was going through his reads and finding the open guy. This game our offense looked like the BYU offense of old in a lot of ways and the way Baylor just laid the ball in over the defense remind me of how Ty Detmer used to play. It was fun to watch. Baylor wasn't trying to do it all himself, he utilized the weapons around him.

I coach a lot in youth bball comp leagues and I see all the time kids who are used to being a one man show. They end up playing a lot of iso ball and are pretty easy to gameplan for despite their considerable individual talent. One guy going solo trying to do a lot with the ball while the other 4 guys stand around and watch. They end up taking forced shots, turning the ball over a lot, etc.

Teams that utilize a lot of motion and good passing involving all 5 guys and force the defense to cover from sideline to sideline, inside and outside wear defenses down and ultimately get good, open shots.

Baylor just went to the open guy and took what the defense gave him but worked the entire field and kept his eyes downfield. He made the easy plays but kept looking for big shots downfield. He played a very smart game, very Detmer-like.
