A good goal is to have 3-6 months' living expenses in a liquid account. Then if an emergency happens, you can draw on
that instead of using a credit card and racking up debt.
If you have more than that amount of money to save, then it's probably better to put it in accounts that accrue more interest, or put it in investments.
