Coming into the season, I fully expected BYU to beat Boise State. Obviously, the pile of injuries from the P5 slate and the brutal losses to Toledo and South Florida changed that tune. But Boise State, while 6-0 and ranked No. 14, is not a great team this year. They were and are easily the most overranked team in college football. While 6-0 looks great, there are probably about 40 or more teams in college football that would have been 6-0 with their schedule.
And BYU is likely one of those. While the Florida State game would have been iffy, playing the likes of Marshall, Portland State, Air Force, UNLV and Hawaii would have helped BYU stay healthy, work out the kinks against inferior competition and get ranked. Confidence is everything. Washington pummeled BYU physically and mentally. They came away wounded and without their stellar senior running back.
That led to the two painful losses to mediocre G5 teams.
Great to see BYU right the ship and get a great win over a rival. The Broncos may very well finish 11-1 or 10-2 (look up their soft closing slate) and ranked, but there is no way they are one of the 25 best teams in college football.
