but I have to wonder if he understood the severity of his use of the term "boy," as it is on par with the "N" word to many people. I have to wonder if he truly understood that his words would be taken on that level? After all he was screaming them at the top of his lungs in a public event. I think if he had true racial intentions he probably would have used the "N" word as well. I think his words were racially insensitive, no doubt, but to say that he is a clear racist and that we know for sure not just ignorant is a stretch.
So many Utahn's grow up in towns where they literally never knew a black person at all. Zero interaction. Sounds crazy, but it's true. Have you ever been to a high school game in rural utah? These rowdy rural fans will use the same "boy" to call out opposing white players. Everybody is white. It's belittling. I think this has to be taken into account on incidents like this. Everybody knows the "N" word is off limits, but believe it or not, not everybody knows that "boy" is off limits as well.
This man could very well be the leader of the KKK and racist, I can't prove that he's not. But he also might have simply been an ignorant Utah farmer who grew up in a 100 percent Caucasian town, who learned a really valuable lesson that night at the arena.
