The Internet suggests I need to shut off water to the whole house, take off the water control part of the shower, not the head itself, and replace a washer. I normally fix minor plumbing issues but this seems like there is a larger than average chance of dramatically screwing something up.

Thoughts? Is this a normal fix it yourself thing?
