Residencies require less capital, federal oversight, and regulation than medical schools (although not much). You do not need a medical school to have residency programs. Why not partner with a local hospital and start off with fam med, peds, and IM? State hospital is nearby so we could do psychiatry as well. I don’t doubt that it would be hard to attract faculty.
Or, if the BoT wanted to avoid the immense costs, why not create a DO school?
I’ve only ever heard rumors as to why BYU has never built a medical school or got involved in residency programs...anyone have first hand knowledge?
