Pro tips for mosquito protection while backpacking
100% Deet is essential, of course, but we've done a few additional things that really make things pleasant. My last 2 backpacking trips we've taken mosquito netting, so you basically create a room in the woods that is mosquito free. We do that for our eating area--don't need it for when we're in the tent, or hiking around.

This is the one we bought:


It's only 1.25 lbs, and has a carrying bag. Plus, $15 isn't bad at all. It's absolutely worth the weight and $$.

Another thing we do use is the belt-clipon mosquito repellent. Here's the link:


They use batteries, and have refills. They work great for areas where the mosquitoes are extra bad.
