I'd be surprised if they wanted to set the precedent that players could go ahead and put their name in the portal and see if the grass is greener - knowing that they have a soft landing if they don't get a better offer. As a coach, I'd be concerned about the number of kids entering the portal increasing just to test those waters and see if they've played well enough in a backup role to get an offer at a bigger school or in a bigger conference. Not something the coaches want to encourage.
