Is it possible that there's more of an underdog mentality in Utah where people from there are more likely to want the state to be perceived well elsewhere, while people from the states of the other examples I listed might care less about that? Having grown up in another state and never feeling that way about other schools in the state, that mindset confuses me.. but my dad is the same way as you guys, grew up in Utah and is a BYU fan but sometimes pulls for the Utes when they're not playing BYU.
