For a little outside of the norm, I took my wife to Lapland (very north of Finland) last year on a northern lights tour
Its above the arctic circle and it was a memorable trip. We went in March around the equinox so we still had reasonable sunset times with sunshine during the day.

During the days we rode snowmobiles and rode on dog sleds and did hikes in the amazing arctic landscape. Then at around 7 or 8pm our tour guide stopped by to take us out to see the aurora. Our cabin was right next to a frozen lake, and the weather was clear every night that week (luck of the draw), so we ended up just hanging around on that lake for unobstructed views of the sky. When we got cold, there was a firepit where we could go sit down and drink hot blueberry juice (and it had wifi- we had fast, free internet everywhere we went, even in the tour van). The tour guide also brought professional photography equipment for some amazing pictures of the aurora. At around midnight or so the tour guide would bid us goodnight and leave, so we would go back to our cabin and warm up in the sauna.

We also spent some time in Helsinki and London on that trip just for good measure.
