ranking committee, that doesn't start work until November 1st. Standings then trump rankings, which means ANY undefeated team must be ranked higher than ANY team with 1 loss.
I don't care if you've played Bo-diddly Tech or the SEC East. All 128 (or whatever the number is now) teams in FBS have been given the same standing by the NCAA, so placing any team above the others without having them play the games is ludicrous.
Standings will go as follows: all undefeated teams lumped together and ranked based on how they finished the previous year. Clemson still would be number 1. They haven't lost yet and they won it all last year, so them only being 4th is completely stupid.
All one loss teams lumped together and ranked according to their end of year ranking from the previous year.
All two loss teams, etc.... until ALL teams are categorized.
After November first, a playoff committee takes the standings/rankings and deciphers which teams may be playing better than others.
The committee consists of 12 individuals. 1 from each conference and 1 from the NCAA office. We won't get into changing the playoff in this post. I just think the current ranking system completely sucks and needs a maybe overhaul. Losses should matter. If you don't lose, you should be rewarded. If you rig your schedule, you will be exposed.
