4 smokin sparkin rims until it explodes into a fireball. Among the charred program, an iPhone w audio file survives, having captured their words: repeating “but we got to play 1-2 more P5 games per year. And never had to admit to Ute fans we are G5.”
Def no easy answers, but it seems pretty clear to me where that rig is headed.
*** added this to orig post*** There are several benefits to Indy, but the emotional detachment as the season goes on is real. I see younger generations utterly turning their back on BYU FB. You can’t sustain such losses for long w/o devastating long term repercussions for program. And exhibition games will never produce emotional, ill intent hard hitting football that familiarity brings.
Some rejoice in not playing Wyo, AF, SDSU, CSU & others, but those are always emotional, very hard hitting games. The contempt familiarity brings is THE reason for great CFB. Indy will simply never be able to reproduce those conditions, nor a viable shot at the playoffs & decent bowls. Indy is great for our ego, especially if overly concerned about the Utes good fortunes, but it was a short term fix at best. The longer it drags on, the more clear the writing on the wall. And no easy answers, at all.
One things clear, many Y fans have an overinflated view of who & what we are and accepting modern reality seems too big a hit to their fan self esteem. Wishing and hoping isn’t a solution to our problem, accepting the hard reality is first, and many won’t accept it until it’s far too late rectify. Our current situation does not make us more appealing to P5. The top 5-6 G5 teams are discussed as P5 possibles. And they will play in better bowl games against name programs. Not that I have anything against Western Michigan or the Great Potato Bowl.
