Kalani has built a program with zero foundation and can only run on emotion at
times. That's why we have this roller coaster of nice wins and terrible losses. Sometimes Kalani is able to rally the troops for a big game and everything clicks. The adrenaline is flowing, things go right and BYU gets a victory.

But when the juices aren't flowing, there isn't a foundation for the team to fall back on. And you can't expect a team to come out hyped for every game. But when they don't, they don't have a defensive identity to fall back on. Rush three and loosely drop 8 isn't a foundation. There isn't a base of physical play or great scheme to fill the emotionless gap.

Same goes with the offense. They've relied on several trick plays to get the ball downfield and score. When those aren't used or don't work there isn't a superior scheme or execution to fall back on.

All that is coaching. Kalani runs on emotion and adrenaline and when that runs out the tank is literally empty and the blinking eyes set in. Good programs have terrible games but they pull them out because they can fall back on what they do well when things aren't clicking. BYU just doesn't have that right now and I don't think Kalani has the program level mindset to implement that. He's more focused on fun and being a player's coach than the discipline and focus it takes to implement those things.
