While reminiscing over the recent MNF game I got to thinking about how terrible the 49ers have been at drafting WRs.
Since the 2010 draft they've drafted 12 WRs. Four of those were taken within the first 3 rounds. Only two of the twelve became primary starters for at least a year (Though Deebo should continue). Throughout their careers they've accounted for 375 receptions, 4,355 yards, and 23 TDs.
Then you take the Steelers, who seem to have a magic touch with WRs. Since 2010 they've also drafted 12 WRs. Six of them were taken within the first 3 rounds. Seven of the twelve became primary starters for at least a year. Throughout their careers they've accounted for 2,002 receptions, 27,042 yards, and 166 TDs.
I've read that WR is one of the hardest positions to project into the NFL. And luck certainly plays into it, but why have the Steelers hit on multiple stars and yet the Niners have a hard time getting WRs that find the field? Is it assessment? Player development? Scheme? QB?
