Beyond that, explain to me why Cole is the clear winner Verlander?
Verlander pitched more innings but allowed fewer hits and walks. Cole had more strikeouts and had a slightly lower ERA.
I mean, I can SEE an argument for Cole, but I don't think it's clear by any means. Given the closeness of the stats, I'd probably lean towards Verlander just because he pitched more innings are roughly the exact same quality.
