Choosing to measure success in sports by TV viewership and revenue is bizarre.
Independence has been a dud in the only area that matters: wins and national relevance.

The last time we finished the season nationally relevant was in 2009, when we were in the MWC.

And since I know you’re going to say “but it’s different now”, since then the following teams have enjoyed national relevance that BYU hasn’t sniffed:
- UCF
- Boise
- SDSU
- Navy
- Houston
- Memphis
- Cincinnati
- Fresno State
- USF
- Western Michigan (!)

Even Utah State, our “little brother” has finished ranked twice in the BYU Indy era.

We have built schedules as an Indy that, combined with chronically under-resourcing the AD, are guaranteed to produce continued irrelevance. But because we make a few more $$ per year and can say our games are on ESPN (newsflash: they would be on ESPN now regardless of our conference affiliation, it isn’t 2006) we are supposed to believe Independence is the answer.
