When I was at Millcreek Jr. High in Bountiful, I had a really big crush on the head cheerleader and the young lady everyone thought was the cutest at school and in our ward. She was nice to me at time or two at church and at mutual so I thought maybe I had a chance.

It was game day so she was in her cheer clothes when I approached her the first time while she was at her locker. I said hi and she nervously said hi as she shut her locker and scurried off to class or whatever. It wasn't the result I wanted but I wasn't going to let it deter me.

A time later, I saw her in the cafeteria after going the burger line sitting with a couple of her friends so I made it a point to walk by and say hello en route to my regular table with the other awkwards, nerds, and strangely dressed. She sarcastically said "hi" back and she and all her friends snickered about it. Again, not the result I wanted.

Soon later, we had one of those really awkward and wierd Jr. high school dances in the gym. This is my big chance I thought. It was now or never. I slicked back my hair and made sure my fly was done up and headed over to her and her pack of popular girls. Cue the Jaws music. I asked her to dance and she uncomfotably said she had to go talk to some of her other friends and walked away. I remember the rocker kids with their long hair and ugly leather leather moccasins laughing at me while I stood their dejected watching her depart.

I saw her some years later while we were both on dates at Hires post high school. We exchanged some uncomfortable hellos and that's the last I ever heard of her.

Ohh well......
