Try a variety b4 purchase. How does it fit in your hand? How accurate for you?

Weight and shape? How comfortable to carry all day? Kids around? If yes you may want a safety not just a safe carry  condition. Will you run several thousand rounds through it over the next few years to become intuitive with all of its functions? If not then go double action revolver.  It will only protect you if you have it with you when it is needed, know how to  use it intuitively under stress (jams, return fire, out of breath, limited use of hands, dark house with other occupant, etc.) and can hit only what you intend.  Then there is the question of whether everyone else in the house will also be trained and to what level?  If you are disabled will your spouse be able to use it or is the threat more likely to use it against you and your loved ones?  Don't use hollywood as any kind of education. They have codified intent to discourage firearm use among viewers by...well I almost got off track.  You need sources of competent training on a regular basis. Good luck you'll probably cycle through multiple purchases before you find your ideal.
