Even the Utes' main claim to fame, beating 'Bama that one time, was done with "g5" players vs. a team that coulda would a shoulda made the national championship (except they lost the week before or some such).
More accurately, G5 recruits a spectrum of players. P5 recruits a spectrum of players. P5, yes, has an advantage in recruiting a higher tier of players, as identified by scouts, etc., when these kids are in high school. Those spectrums (spectra?) overlap. Sometimes scouts are wrong. But more importantly, there are other factors than money and "P5" at play. A good program like Boise / BYU can out-recruit the bottom half of the P5s. Competing with the top half is tougher, but also do-able. BYU has advantages no other school has. It needs to leverage those. Money helps, sure, but as many here have pointed out, it's a matter of priorities, and, if we can't get the money from the school, Tom Holmoe doing fundraising among the fanbase.
